As long as you’ve connected the blue wire to the same feed as the dimmer switch this one becomes programmable and pretty sweet. The companion switch looks identical except it doesn’t have an LED. But that’s a small step to have this functioning well. Programming the switch is easy but not intuitive and you’ll need to watch a video to figure out how to do it. Turning it off has a gradual off and if you hold the off button for a second it will provide a 30 second delay before turning off. The magic to this dimmer is that you can program it to remember your preferred level of brightness so that one click and it automatically goes to that setting. Dimming is easy just slide a finger along the LED light and it works like a charm. When you push the on portion the switch doesn’t move to an “on position” it just turns the lights on (this is why red black wires are interchangeable). It looks like a toggle switch but in reality it’s a rocker with buttons. We’re in new construction so there was plenty of room in our box.įunctionally it’s great. Because there’s some tech in this switch and because you have to use wire nuts it takes up more space in the gang box than a regular switch. The Red and black are interchangeable on these switches due to it not being a real toggle (I’ll explain that shortly). To install in a three way switch you need to make sure you connect the blue wire to the same feed on the dimmer and on the companion switch. Both switches have three wires coming out of it: red, black, and blue. It comes with the connectors two new screws for the gang box and even a jumper wire (though I’m not sure what that’s for). This dimmer, unlike other switches uses wire nuts to connect rather than connecting the wires directly to the switch. Installing it is easy it comes with everything you need except a screwdriver or way to strip wire. I bought this for our new house and am thrilled with it.
